“MISSING MURALS IN KALA GHODA”

Brief
A short video capturing the essence of the Missing Public Art murals for Missing Link Trust’s ‘Google Arts and Culture’ page.
Our Take
Shooting guerilla-style always means discretion and swiftness. Being precise helps even more. Since we didn’t have a storyboard or chalked-out shoot plan, we priotized mobility and malleability for this one - keeping gear minimal to a handheld mirrorless camera and a basic zoom lens. The intention, however, was always clear : to capture the environment of these murals; the lanes and walls that would bring them to life (quite literally) when someone scanned the laminated QR codes fitted beside the artwork. Feeling like a covert operation, Wu Tang Clan and Cypress Hill began playing in our heads the moment we began to see the artist at work; from unfolding the stenciled-cutouts at a roadside table to the slick whistling of black spray paint as it left the spray can. One moment the walls of Kala Ghoda are barren, next moment they’re wonderful canvases for art and artivism. This energetic shift is visible here, and being light on our feet helped us capture some candid moments, like the ending.
