“SAVERA (Reel 1)”

Brief
A short reel teasing Prasanna’s song ‘Savera’, a song that celebrates finding a safe space, a sanctuary after a long search. The song celebrates the joy and gratitude of experiencing these things. It is feel-good, while considering its characters’ past traumas.
Our Take
After going through several ideas that bordered on the literal, we settled on going for something abstract, told through movement. But not too abstract, so as to make it a ‘performance art’ piece. Drawing inspiration from the choreography in the low-budget music video ‘Love Yourself’, we realised that to sell the idea we needed a solid location to serve as a supporting character. Since videos about couples inside their homes had been done plenty of times before, we ventured outside, once again using the city of Mumbai, specifically South Mumbai, as our backdrop and third character. And instead of approaching the video like a typical ‘dance reel’, we wanted to infuse dance into a silent film, giving our performers a character to play, using movement to highlight only the abstract already present in the song.
