Brief
A narrative reel for the book launch of Shunali’s new book “The Wrong Way Home”
Our Take
This vertical short was all concept and swift execution. Shunali’s book is about a recently divorced, affluent woman in her forties, trying to start life anew, told through the lens of satire and absurdist humour. The official cover of the book featured a taxi and a red scarf blowing in the wind. We simply ran with this imagery and came up with a short tale of a woman in Bandra, lost, as she rides along the streets in an uber taxi, looking for her ‘home’ (or perhaps some place else?). To highlight the absurdity and the humour in the book, we cast Shunali as a heightened version of her own self, used the classic song ‘Ina Mina Dika’ as the soundtrack, hired an Uber for a few hours and used Bandra itself as our backdrop. Inspired by mysterious Hitchcockian women and the pacing of the opening scenes of ‘The Darjeeling Limited’, we armed ourselves only with an Iphone 15 Pro and a gimbal and filmed this on location, in available sunlight. The fantastic in-built lenses on the phone helped us make a short film instead of simply shooting a reel.
