Our Take
This ‘concept’ short was produced and edited for first time writer-director Igor Raevskii, who was determined to tell a Guy Ritchie/Nicolas Winding Refn-inspired story set in East Los Angeles. Like most of our early work, we approached this film in a D-I-Y manner, pooling in available resources. Igor’s rookie zeal was infectious, and by placing his vision in the hands of a seasoned ‘film school’ crew, its safe to say we’ve made something that would make most 20-year-old filmmakers green with envy. After raising $5000 on Kickstarter, scouting locations over weekends, and casting our friends from Playhouse West (and from regular life), we filmed over two days at an automobile garage that gave us permission and promised us discretion. The opening shots were filmed guerilla, while our Alexa Mini, DS1 Sputnik lights and anamorphic lenses received most of the film’s budget. Working on this film was surreal because it brought together folks from various backgrounds and ethnicities who connected deeply on a shared desire to make something ‘punk’, and with urgency.
